Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Oil
What is it?
German chamomile, an annual native to Europe and western Asia, has been used medicinally for centuries. Today it is still one of the most popular herbs, found in teas as well as in many personal care products.
What does it do?
German chamomile contains a mixture of compounds. When chamomile is combined with the other botanicals in our Botanically Fresh toothpaste, the blend reduces bad breath odours and freshens breath.
How is it made?
The Chamomilla recutita (Matricaria) oil used in our Botanically Fresh Toothpaste is steam distilled from the dried chamomile flowers.
What are the alternatives?
There are other breath freshening agents, such as cetylpyridinium chloride, but these compounds do not meet the natural standards in our Stewardship Model. However, we do also use zinc compounds in some oral care products as another naturally derived alternative for breath freshening. Tom's of Maine offers our consumers choices to enjoy the benefits of nature.
Is this the right option for me?
Those with known allergies to the aster family (also known as the sunflower family) may experience allergic reactions with chamomile as well.
Tom's of Maine recognizes that no two people are alike, and even with naturally derived ingredients, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction that is unique to them. As with any product, be sure to discontinue use if you experience discomfort or other indications that the product may not be appropriate for your individual body chemistry.
