L-Arginine

What is it?

L-Arginine is a naturally occurring amino acid in plants and can be derived via natural fermentation of plant materials that contain sugars such as sucrose.

What does it do?

L-Arginine, a naturally derived ingredient, is used in Tom’s of Maine Rapid Relief Sensitive toothpaste together with calcium carbonate to help seal open nerve channels and thus reduce the pain of tooth sensitivity.

How is it made?

Our Stewardship Model guides us to select ingredients which have been processed in a manner that supports our philosophy of human and environmental health.

The L-Arginine we use in our toothpaste is from the fermentation of taro root.  After the fermentation the arginine is purified and crystallized for our use.

Is this the right option for me?

Arginine is naturally produced in our bodies and is present in the proteins of both plant and animal based foods we eat every day. L-Arginine is used in our Rapid Relief toothpaste formula. Together with calcium carbonate it provides sensitivity relief.  When used regularly every day sensitivity relief is provided.  Consult a dentist if tooth sensitivity or pain persists longer than four weeks.
