Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil
What is it?
Melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil, also known as tea tree oil, is an essential oil extracted from the leaves and branches of the Melaleuca alternifolia, a species of tree in the Myrtaceae family.
What does it do?
This botanical adds herbal flavour to some of our toothpastes and a fresh, clean mouth feel. Tea tree oil has a warm, spicy aroma that is also used as a fragrance in some of our deodorants.
How is it made?
For use as a flavouring agent, tea tree oil is extracted from the Melaleuca alternifolia leaves through steam and decantation. The oil is then used for flavour or fragrance.
What are the alternatives?
There are other herbals used in our botanical line, but there is no natural alternative to tea tree oil. Synthetic flavours are available, but would not meet our Stewardship model.
